Malachi's Family

As foster parents for twelve years, we joined the NDSAN with the express goal of adopting a child with Down syndrome from foster care.  We had adopted our daughter, Faith, through our fostering experience and wanted to do it again!  Stephanie worked tirelessly with us as we maneuvered two tentative placements that eventually fell through.  Then we met Malachi!  Mac wasn’t in foster care, but he was in the Second Chance Adoption Program.  They had reached out to Stephanie because they weren’t getting a lot of response.  We matched with Malachi immediately!  In fact, we were the only family the parents considered because we had a daughter with Down syndrome and shared many family values.  It was obviously meant to be!

Stephanie was with us every step of the way through both the worrisome and joyful periods.  She spoke to me over the phone and through email helping me prepare questions to ask and know what to expect working with the agency.  We weren’t planning on a private adoption, so we had to scramble for the funds and we are so grateful for the grant that helped us recoup.  We are even more thankful for our son!

Malachi had a wonderful holiday. He is so glad to be back at school this year and is strong and healthy.

August 2023

Wow! Malachi is 10! I don’t know where the time went. He is such a joy to our family and is so close with his sister Faith. He loves super heroes and playing outside. He is enjoying school and continues to surprise us everyday.
