Alexa’s Family

Marc and I have 4 biological children. We thought that we were done growing our family. I, Lisa, had always wanted to add another child through adoption, specifically a child with special needs. Marc, however, was not on the same page, and was fully convinced we were finished having children. Fast forward to the summer of 2023. Our youngest was turning 7, and God started to work on Marc's heart. He brought up adoption to me, and I immediately jumped on board! I couldn't believe my ears!

We started discussing the possible direction to take (domestic, international, adoption through foster care). Through our searching over the following few months, we found the NDSAN. We knew almost right away this was the direction we needed to go. We chose an adoption agency and began the home study process. And we started having conversations with our other children. 3 of them jumped fully on board with us, while the 4th was not so excited about this idea.

We officially went live with the NDSAN in March of 2024. We waited for almost 15 months, which at times seemed easy, and other times was extremely difficult. While waiting we started doing respite care for a 2 yr old little girl with Ds who is currently in foster care. She is the sassiest, spunkiest little girl and has such a special place in our hearts.

In late May of 2025, we were presented with an expectant Momma due in mid-June. We said yes as we had with many other cases. About a week later we heard that another family had been chosen. Two weeks later I was getting ready to go to a performance for 2 of our kiddos at school, and I got a phone call. It was a call from Stephanie Thompson. And for those who have been on the registry, you know that when Stephanie calls, you ANSWER! She was calling to tell us that the previous family had stepped back from this situation, and asked us if we were still willing to say yes. I answered wholeheartedly that yes, we were still interested! Three days later, on Father's Day, we were notified that we were chosen for this baby girl!! And, she would be born in the next couple of days. We very quickly made travel plans, and plans for our children at home. We left later that afternoon, and were in town for the birth of our daughter.

Alexa was born on a Tuesday. Her birth Mom and Dad spent the days with her in the hospital, loving her, cuddling her, and letting her meet family. We were able to meet her at 24 hrs old. After discharge from the hospital, they brought her to us, and gave us the most amazing, beautiful gift.

We have now been home with her for almost 2 weeks. She is the sweetest, most calm baby. She has shocked us by rolling from her tummy to her back multiple times, and giving us smiles occasionally. We are all absolutely in love with her, including our son who wasn't so sure about the plan to adopt.

Thank you for helping us with some of the financial strain that comes along with adoption. We are so happy to have been considered by your organization.
